Summer's Over. Time to get serious about that digital landfill.
Most organizations have done a pretty decent job of managing all of the "data." But they have done an awful job managing all of the other electronic "stuff" -- things like application files and images and web information and so on and so on.
The "digital landfill" in most organizations represents the last great untouched frontier of information management. There is more information surrounding our business and organizational processes than ever before. Increasing percentages of this information are business critical. This information is being created in, and distributed to, more places in an organization than ever before.
The impact of the growing awareness of the problem is that organizations are beginning to understand the fundamental reality that they need more CONTROL over the information in their organizations and they need to better LEVERAGE the information in their organizations.
Sometimes this awareness is driven by risk-based concerns. Sometimes it is driven by compliance concerns. Sometimes by cost and efficiency concerns. Sometimes by all of the above. But the impact of this on the industry is very fundamental in 2 very key ways. It has created a drive in large organizations to expand core ecm functionality from 5% of desktops to virtually every desktop. And for the first time, we see a real interest on the part of small and mid sized organizations in exploring and implementing these technologies.
This first installment on this channel will be exploring AIIM programs as a test of the media. Future installments will be more focused directly on key trends and issues facing end users.
Blog readers -- bear with me while I test this out....

Great way to shake off the summer doldrums and get back into action,
AIIM action that is!
It will be an exciting fall season as companies and organizations once again focus their attention on the paper and electronic documents that drive their business and incorporate one of the many AIIM activities into those plans.
